Biography
Callisto are a Finnish post-metal band formed in Kokkola in 2001 and later based in Turku. Across four studio albums, 'True Nature Unfolds', 'Noir', 'Providence' and 'Secret Youth', they moved from hardcore-influenced sludge towards a melancholic, experimental sound using mellotron, saxophone and layered guitars. The arrival of vocalist Jani Ala-Hukkala in 2008 reshaped the band around melodic singing without losing its heaviness. Cryptic, theologically tinged lyrics and slow, downbeat arrangements make Callisto a distinctive and hard to categorise voice in European post-metal, with a reputation built on headlining European tours between 2004 and 2015.
