Biography

Camarón de la Isla (1950–1992), born José Monje Cruz in San Fernando, Cádiz, was the defining flamenco singer of his era and a Roma icon. His partnership with guitarist *Paco de Lucía* produced nine classic albums between 1969 and 1977, and 'La Leyenda del Tiempo' (1979) revolutionised flamenco by fusing it with rock instrumentation and Lorca's poetry. He later worked with *Tomatito* and died in Badalona aged 41.
