Biography
Captain Beyond was a short-lived American progressive hard rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1971 by *Deep Purple* singer Rod Evans, *Iron Butterfly* guitarist Larry Reinhardt and bassist Lee Dorman, and drummer Bobby Caldwell. Their 1972 debut 'Captain Beyond' on #Capricorn# is a cult classic of suite-like, jazz-tinged hard rock. A reshaped line-up made 'Sufficiently Breathless' in 1973, and the core trio later reunited with singer Willy Daffern for 'Dawn Explosion' in 1977 before splitting in 1978.
