Biography
American composer, born in Los Angeles and long resident in Japan. A student of *Morton Subotnick* and *James Tenney* at CalArts, Stone pioneered the use of live sampling as a compositional method. Stone stretches and layers fragments of existing music into slowly mutating structures, often naming pieces after restaurants. Reissues on #Unseen Worlds#, including 'Electronic Music from the Seventies and Eighties' (2016), revived interest in a catalogue that anticipated plunderphonics, vaporwave and modern sampling practice by decades.
