Biography
Cat Stevens is the stage name of Steven Demetre Georgiou, a British singer-songwriter who became one of the most prominent artists of the 1970s. His music, a gentle and introspective blend of folk, pop, and rock, yielded enduring hits like "Wild World," "Father and Son," and "Morning Has Broken." His albums 'Tea for the Tillerman' and 'Teaser and the Firecat' were commercial and critical triumphs, defining the singer-songwriter era. After converting to Islam in 1977, he changed his name to Yusuf Islam and took a long hiatus from the music industry. He returned to recording and performing in 2006 as Yusuf, later using the name Yusuf / Cat Stevens.
