Biography
Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes was a French experimental rock group formed in Paris in 1970, growing out of the short-lived 2bis. Singer Catherine Ribeiro, a former actress who had appeared in Godard's 'Les Carabiniers', fronted the band of composer and multi-instrumentalist Patrice Moullet, who built his own instruments, including the cosmophone and percuphone. With organist Patrice Lemoine and bassist Francis Campello among the early members, the group released 'N°2' (1970), 'Ame Debout' (1971) and 'Paix' (1972), mixing folk, psychedelia and progressive rock with Ribeiro's politically charged lyrics. Later albums included 'Libertés' (1975); the group wound down by 1980, and Ribeiro died in 2024.
