Biography
Henri Texier, born in Paris on 27 January 1945, is one of the defining double bassists of French jazz. Self-taught, he moved from backing visiting American stars in Paris clubs to the European Rhythm Machine of *Phil Woods*, then to a singular career as a leader. His 1970s albums 'Amir' and 'Varech' mixed jazz with Breton and North African folk colours, multi-instrumental overdubs and chant. He later led the Transatlantik Quartet and the celebrated trio with *Louis Sclavis* and *Aldo Romano*, recording extensively for #Label Bleu# and still performing with groups that include his son Sebastien.
