Biography
Charlie Rich was an American singer and pianist from Colt, Arkansas, a #Sun Records# alumnus whose jazz-inflected versatility delayed his stardom until 'Behind Closed Doors' and 'The Most Beautiful Girl' (1973) made him country's 'Silver Fox'. His records remain models of effortless, genre-crossing musicality. His musicianship was admired across genres; as a young Sun Records pianist he wrote songs recorded by *Johnny Cash* and *Jerry Lee Lewis*, and his own early sides are among the label's most sophisticated work.
