Biography

Formed in London in 1969 by South African pianist Chris McGregor, the Brotherhood of Breath expanded his exile group *The Blue Notes* into a big band mixing South African township music, big band arranging and free jazz. Its two #RCA# studio albums, 'Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath' (1971) and 'Brotherhood' (1972), featured a core of McGregor, Harry Miller and Louis Moholo with a powerful horn section. Later editions followed from France in the 1980s.
