Biography
The Clifford Brown and Max Roach Quintet was one of the most influential hard bop groups in jazz history. Co-led by the virtuosic trumpeter Clifford Brown and pioneering drummer Max Roach, the band had a brief but brilliant existence from 1954 to 1956. Their recordings for #EmArcy Records#, such as 'Clifford Brown and Max Roach' and 'Study in Brown', are considered seminal works of the era. The group's initial lineup featured *Harold Land* on tenor saxophone, who was later replaced by *Sonny Rollins*. Known for their tight arrangements, fiery solos, and telepathic interplay, the quintet's legacy was tragically cut short by the deaths of Brown and pianist *Richie Powell*.
