Biography
David Ackles (1937-1999) was an American singer-songwriter whose four albums, above all 'American Gothic' (1972), blend orchestral pop, country and music theatre. Never a commercial success, he was championed by *Elton John* and *Elvis Costello*, left music for screenwriting in the 1970s, and died in Tujunga, California, in 1999, and his songs have since been rediscovered by a new generation of songwriters.
