German bassist and composer Eberhard Weber is celebrated for his unmistakable sound and foundational role in defining the #ECM# Records aesthetic. His lyrical, horn-like phrasing on a self-designed five-string electric upright bass set a new standard for the instrument's role in jazz. Weber's 1974 debut, 'The Colours of Chlöe', is a landmark of European chamber jazz, blending improvisation with cinematic, orchestral textures. His influential work includes leading his group Colours, a long tenure with the *Jan Garbarek Group*, and notable collaborations with artists like *Kate Bush* and *Pat Metheny*. Though a 2007 stroke ended his playing career, his legacy continues through re-imaginings of his recorded solos.
