Jan Garbarek

A Norwegian saxophonist whose stark, lyrical, and keening tone is one of the most recognizable sounds in modern music. A key artist on the ECM record label, Garbarek was instrumental in developing a distinctly European style of jazz, drawing on the folk traditions of Scandinavia. His long-running and hugely popular 'European Quartet' with Keith Jarrett produced landmark albums like 'My Song,' which defined the spacious and melodic 'ECM sound' of the 1970s.
