- Born: December 19, 1915 in Paris, France
- Died: October 11, 1963 in Paris, France
Biography
French chanson singer from Paris whose trembling, dramatic delivery made her the archetype of the genre. 脡dith Piaf's signature songs 'La Vie en rose', 'Hymne 脿 l'amour' and 'Non, je ne regrette rien' turned a life of poverty, addiction and bereavement into art, and her Olympia concerts were national events. Discovered as a street singer in 1935, she helped launch *Charles Aznavour* and remains, decades after her death in 1963, the voice most identified with France itself.
