George Clinton

George Clinton

An architect of funk, George Clinton served as the mastermind of the Parliament-Funkadelic collective. [1, 12] His work began with The Parliaments, a doo-wop group, before he radically merged soul, psychedelic rock, and theatricality into a distinct genre known as P-Funk. [2, 7, 10] Operating under the dual banners of Parliament and Funkadelic, Clinton explored divergent yet complementary sounds, from R&B-inflected funk to acid rock explorations, all unified by a complex mythology and Afrofuturist themes. [2, 8, 11] This innovative approach, combining surreal humor with social commentary, defined a pivotal era of Black American music and created a lasting influence on hip-hop, rock, and electronic artists.
