Biography
George Shearing (1919-2011) was a blind British jazz pianist and bandleader who emigrated to the United States and formed his quintet in 1949. His locked-hands Shearing sound, heard on 'September in the Rain' and his composition 'Lullaby of Birdland', made him one of the best-selling jazz artists of the 1950s on #Capitol#. Later work in trios and duos, notably with *Mel Torm茅*, brought a Grammy-winning late-career renaissance.
