Biography

Gil Evans was a Canadian-American jazz arranger, composer, and bandleader revered as one of the greatest orchestrators in history. His lush, impressionistic arrangements played a pivotal role in the development of cool jazz, modal jazz, and jazz fusion. Evans is most famous for his landmark collaborations with trumpeter *Miles Davis* on #Columbia Records#, which produced the seminal albums 'Miles Ahead', 'Porgy and Bess', and 'Sketches of Spain'. These works are considered pinnacles of 'Third Stream' music, blending jazz improvisation with classical orchestration.
