Greg Lake

Greg Lake

Gregory Stuart Lake was an English singer, musician, and producer whose distinct tenor and versatile instrumental work anchored two seminal progressive rock bands. He first gained prominence as the lead vocalist and bassist for King Crimson, contributing a foundational presence to their influential 1969 debut, In the Court of the Crimson King. After departing, he co-founded Emerson, Lake & Palmer, where his songwriting, production, and performances on bass and acoustic guitar provided a crucial counterpoint to the group’s complex classical-jazz fusion. Lake's refined melodic sensibilities defined the band's accessible ballads, shaping a significant and commercially successful dimension of the progressive rock sound.
