Ibrahim Ferrer

Biography

Cuban singer Ibrahim Ferrer, born in San Luis in 1927, sang professionally from his teens, most durably with *Los Bocucos*, the Havana group he joined in its earlier form in 1953 and stayed with for nearly forty years. A master of son and guaracha who longed to sing boleros, he had retired by the time the *Afro-Cuban All Stars* and *Buena Vista Social Club* sessions of 1996 recalled him to the studio. His late solo albums for #World Circuit#, 'Buena Vista Social Club Presents Ibrahim Ferrer' in 1999 and the Grammy-winning 'Buenos Hermanos' in 2003, brought his gentle bolero singing to a worldwide audience. He died in Havana in 2005.
