Biography
Idris Muhammad was a New Orleans jazz and funk drummer, born Leo Morris. A house drummer for #Prestige Records#, he led the soul-jazz classics 'Black Rhythm Revolution!' (1970) and 'Power of Soul' (1974); his grooves became some of the most sampled in hip-hop, and he served long stints with *Ahmad Jamal*. His autobiography, 'Inside the Music', appeared in 2012, and the breaks built from his Prestige and Kudu recordings underpin countless hip-hop and acid-jazz tracks.
