Biography
Jagatara was a Japanese band formed in 1979 around singer Edo Akemi. Mixing funk, Afrobeat, new wave and matsuri rhythms, the band became a cult live institution of Japan's independent scene, with albums beginning with 'Nanban Torai' (1982). Jagatara dissolved after Akemi's sudden death in January 1990; a separate reunion project followed decades later under the name Jagatara2020, in tribute to Akemi.
