Jeff Mangum

Biography

Jeff Mangum, born in Ruston, Louisiana in 1970, is the singer, songwriter and guitarist of *Neutral Milk Hotel* and a co-founder of the *Elephant 6* collective. His songwriting reached its peak on 'In the Aeroplane Over the Sea' (1998), a surreal, emotionally overwhelming album that grew from cult favourite to a defining indie rock record. Famously private, Mangum spent long stretches out of the public eye after 1998, returning for occasional solo performances while releasing little new music under his own name.
