Biography

John Convertino is an American drummer, multi-instrumentalist, and composer, best known as a core member of the Tucson-based band Calexico. His fluid, jazz-influenced drumming style is a foundational element of the group's 'desert noir' sound, which blends indie rock, country-americana, and various Latin influences. Before co-founding Calexico with *Joey Burns*, he was the drummer for the influential alternative country band Giant Sand. Convertino is also a prolific collaborator and has released several solo albums, such as 'Ragland' and 'The Western Suite and Siesta Songs', which showcase his talents on piano, vibraphone, and accordion, further exploring ambient and experimental soundscapes.
