Biography
Giant Sand are the Tucson band of Howe Gelb, formed in 1980 as the Giant Sandworms. A rotating collective rather than a fixed lineup, the band made its name with desert rock albums from 'Valley of Rain' (1985) to 'Chore of Enchantment' (2000), the latter with the rhythm section of John Convertino and Joey Burns, later of *Calexico*. A Danish based lineup has carried the band since the 2000s, most recently remaking its earliest albums in 2018 and 2019.
