Marshall Allen

An alto saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist, Marshall Allen is a titan of the jazz avant-garde, best known for his seven-decade tenure with the Sun Ra Arkestra. Since Sun Ra's passing in 1993, Allen has directed the Arkestra, continuing its cosmic mission. He is renowned for his searing, high-register 'pyrotechnics' on the alto, creating a sound that is both fiery and otherworldly. His mastery of avant-garde techniques makes him one of the most distinctive and enduring voices of free jazz.
