Biography
Matthew Shipp is an American avant-garde jazz pianist born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1960. Long the pianist in David S. Ware's quartet, he leads his own trios in a dense, percussive style that absorbs classical music, hip hop and electronica. As curator of #Thirsty Ear#'s Blue Series he has also produced many cross-genre recordings, and he remains one of free jazz's most prolific and distinctive figures.
