Biography

French composer Maurice Ravel, born in Ciboure in 1875, became one of the defining orchestrators of the twentieth century. His 'Daphnis et Chlo茅' for *Sergei Diaghilev*, his version of *Modest Mussorgsky*'s 'Pictures at an Exhibition' and the worldwide success of 'Bol茅ro' (1928) rest on music of exacting craft and clarity. He died in Paris in 1937. His piano music and the two late piano concertos show the same precision at a smaller scale..
