Michael Hedges (1953–1997) was an Enid, Oklahoma guitarist whose tapping, tunings and percussive technique transformed acoustic fingerstyle. His #Windham Hill# album 'Aerial Boundaries' (1984) is a genre landmark. He died in a California car accident in 1997, aged 43, leaving later records such as 'Taproot' (1990) and 'Oracle' (1996) and the posthumous 'Torched' (1999).
