Morbid Angel is a pioneering American death metal band formed in 1983 in Tampa, Florida, by guitarist and sole constant member Trey Azagthoth. Known for complex arrangements, technical proficiency, and occult themes, they are a foundational band in the death metal genre. Their early 1990s albums are considered classics, and they were the first death metal band to achieve significant mainstream success.
