Biography
American flatpicking guitarist from Chattanooga, Tennessee, raised in Alabama, whose intricate crosspicking defined acoustic guitar in bluegrass and folk. A Nashville session player for *Johnny Cash* and *Bob Dylan*, he made the canonical solo albums 'Home in Sulphur Springs' (1972) and 'Whiskey Before Breakfast' (1976), often recording with his wife Nancy Blake. His recordings with Nancy Blake and his teaching legacy have made him one of the most imitated acoustic guitarists in American music.
