Olivia Block

Biography

Chicago-based composer and sound artist Olivia Block has built, since 'Pure Gaze' at the end of the 1990s, a body of electroacoustic work combining field recordings, electronics and chamber instruments. She performs multichannel concerts on synthesizers, piano, organ and amplified objects, creates site-specific sound installations, and writes scores for ensembles, orchestra and film. Her albums for #Sedimental#, #Room40#, #Glistening Examples# and #Black Truffle# include 'Heave To', 'Dissolution' and 'Innocent Passage in the Territorial Sea'. Her 2024 album 'The Mountains Pass' brought her voice and percussion to the foreground in impressionistic songs inspired by animals and the landscapes of northern New Mexico.
