Biography
Brazilian clarinetist and saxophonist Paulo Moura (1932–2010) moved the Brazilian wind tradition into jazz, choro and orchestral settings. First clarinetist of Rio's Municipal Theatre Orchestra and a veteran of the 1962 Carnegie Hall bossa nova night, he led his own heptet and quartet, recorded 'Confusão urbana, suburbana e rural' and collaborated across generations of Brazilian music. The first Brazilian instrumentalist to win a Latin Grammy, he is remembered for a warm, singing tone and arrangements that treated gafieira dance music as concert repertoire.
