Biography
The Penguin Cafe Orchestra was an English ensemble founded in 1972 by guitarist and composer Simon Jeffes with cellist Helen Liebmann. Its sound mixed exuberant folk music with a minimalist aesthetic, in pieces written largely by Jeffes and played by a changing cast of regulars. Albums include 'Music from the Penguin Cafe' (1976), 'Broadcasting from Home' (1984) and 'Union Cafe' (1993). The group toured worldwide until Jeffes's death in 1997.
