Biography

Pete Farndon was the English founding bassist for the rock band The Pretenders, defining their tough image and punk-infused new wave sound. His driving, melodic basslines were central to the success of their first two albums, 'Pretenders' and 'Pretenders II'. Farndon was recruited by *Chrissie Hynde* in 1978 and was instrumental in bringing guitarist *James Honeyman-Scott* into the fold. His escalating drug use led to his dismissal in June 1982. After his departure, he formed the short-lived band Samurai with *Topper Headon* of *The Clash*. Less than a year after leaving The Pretenders, Farndon died from a drug overdose at the age of 30.
