Biography
Picchio dal Pozzo are an Italian progressive rock band formed in Genoa in 1976 around keyboardist Aldo De Scalzi, guitarist Paolo Griguolo and bassist Andrea Beccari, with saxophonist and flautist *Giorgio Karaghiosoff* completing the line-up on their self-titled debut album that year. Released on De Scalzi's own #Grog Records# and dedicated to *Robert Wyatt*, 'Picchio dal Pozzo' blended Canterbury scene influences, jazz rock and surreal Italian lyrics in a style unlike any other Italian progressive band. Karaghiosoff left after the debut, and Roberto Romani and Aldo Di Marco joined for the more experimental second album, 'Abbiamo tutti i suoi problemi', released in 1980 on #L'Orchestra# after the band's association with the Rock in Opposition movement and *Stormy Six*. The band then split, returning in the 2000s with the archive release 'Camere Zimmer Rooms' and 'Picnic @ Valdapozzo' in 2004, built around unreleased recordings featuring singer *Demetrio Stratos*.
