Formed in Dublin in 1972 by Christy Moore, Andy Irvine, Dónal Lunny and Liam O'Flynn, Planxty fused Irish traditional music with folk and rock energy on albums such as 'Planxty' (1973), 'The Well Below the Valley' (1974) and 'After the Break' (1979). Their intricate interplay of pipes, bouzouki and mandolin set the template for modern Celtic music before they split in 1983.
