Possessed is a pioneering American death metal band formed in 1983 in San Francisco, widely considered the first true death metal band and a major influence on death/thrash metal. Known for fast, aggressive playing and frontman Jeff Becerra's growled vocals, they are best known for the 1985 classic debut Seven Churches.
