Biography
Australian guitarist and songwriter from Melbourne, the gaunt sonic architect of *The Birthday Party*. Howard wrote 'Shivers' for *The Boys Next Door*, then took his slashing, feedback-heavy guitar to London and Berlin, recording 'Prayers on Fire' and 'Junkyard' for #4AD#, and later led *These Immortal Souls*. His solo albums 'Teenage Snuff Film' (1999) and 'Pop Crimes' (2009) confirmed a songwriter of bleak elegance; he died in 2009, weeks after the second was released.
