Roy Wood

Biography

Roy Wood, born in Birmingham in 1946, is one of British pop's great eccentrics: a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who founded three hit bands. With *The Move* he wrote psychedelic pop classics, with *Electric Light Orchestra* he pioneered orchestral rock, and with *Wizzard* he made flamboyant glam hits including the evergreen 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day'. On solo records such as 'Boulders' he played nearly every instrument himself. His songs, makeup and stage image made him a defining figure of 1970s British pop.
