Biography
Sandwell District is a multinational techno collective founded in Birmingham, England, in 2002 by Karl O'Connor and Peter Sutton as an extension of #Downwards Records#. Joined from 2005 by David Sumner and *Juan Mendez*, the group favoured anonymous, collective releases over individual billing. Its 2010 album 'Feed-Forward' defined a stripped and industrial strain of techno. After the label closed in 2011, O'Connor and Sumner revived Sandwell District, releasing 'End Beginnings' in 2025 as a tribute to Mendez, who died in 2024.
