Biography
Spires That in the Sunset Rise is an American psychedelic folk group formed in Decatur, Illinois, by four friends who later relocated to Chicago. Multi-instrumentalists Kathleen Baird and Taralie Peterson have been the constant core, building ritualistic, chant-driven songs from harp, cello, banjo, spike fiddle and harmonium on albums such as 'Four Winds the Walker', 'This Is Fire' and 'Curse the Traced Bird'. Earlier members Georgia Vallas and Tracy Peterson completed the original quartet. Now a duo, Baird and Peterson have continued with 'Ancient Patience Wills It Again', 'Beasts in the Garden' and 'Psychic Oscillations', blending avant-garde improvisation with dark folk traditions.
