Biography
Terry Riley is an American composer and performing musician widely regarded as a pioneer of the minimalist school of composition. His work is noted for its innovative use of repetition, improvisation, and tape music techniques, drawing heavily from influences like jazz and Indian classical music. His 1964 composition 'In C' is a seminal work of musical minimalism, and his 1969 album 'A Rainbow in Curved Air' became a landmark of psychedelic and electronic music. A student of the master Indian vocalist *Pandit Pran Nath*, Riley integrated deep structures of raga into his work. His decades-long collaboration with the Kronos Quartet has produced a significant body of work for string quartet.
