Terumasa Hino

Biography

Japanese jazz trumpeter born in Tokyo, active since 1955. Terumasa Hino rose through the *Hideo Shiraki Quintet* in the 1960s, led his own bands on albums including 'Hi-Nology', 'Fuji' and 'Hip Seagull', and after moving to New York in 1975 played with many leading American jazz musicians. Moving between post-bop, spiritual jazz, free jazz and fusion, he became a central figure in Japanese jazz and a mentor to later generations of Japanese players.
