Biography

The Group was the English billing of the Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza, the Rome composers collective founded by Franco Evangelisti in 1964. A shifting ensemble that included *Ennio Morricone*, Egisto Macchi and Mario Bertoncini, it pioneered collective free improvisation in European new music and played on Morricone film scores. As The Group it made 'The Feed-Back' for #RCA# in 1970, a cult record fusing avant garde improvisation with insistent rock drumming. The collective worked under its Italian name until 1980.
