Biography
The Holy Modal Rounders were an American folk group formed in New York City in 1963 by Peter Stampfel and Steve Weber. Their irreverent updating of old-time music, heard on their 1964 debut and the psychedelic folk albums 'Indian War Whoop' and 'The Moray Eels Eat The Holy Modal Rounders', made them pioneers of freak folk with a devoted cult following. Expanding to a full band and relocating to Oregon, they recorded into the 1970s, and Stampfel and Weber reunited for 'Too Much Fun!' in 1999 before the group ended in 2003.
