Biography
The Standells are a Los Angeles garage rock band formed in 1962 by Larry Tamblyn and Tony Valentino. With singer and drummer Dick Dodd they cut the 1966 hit 'Dirty Water' for #Tower Records#, a garage classic later adopted by Boston sports fans. Albums including 'Why Pick on Me' and 'Try It' mixed pop hooks with a proto-punk snarl that influenced *Minor Threat* and *The Cramps*. The group has continued in changing line-ups, with Valentino carrying the name into the present day.
