Biography
Yard Act is a British post-punk band formed in Leeds in 2019. The group consists of James Smith (vocals), Ryan Needham (bass), Sam Shipstone (guitar), and Jay Russell (drums). Known for Smith's sprechgesang vocal delivery and satirical, narrative-driven lyrics, the band blends wiry post-punk with elements of indie rock and dance-punk. They gained rapid acclaim with their debut album, 'The Overload', which was released in 2022 on #Island Records# and their own #Zen F.C.# imprint. The album reached number two on the UK Albums Chart and was nominated for the Mercury Prize, cementing their status as a vital new voice in British music.
