French post-metal band from Bordeaux, formed in 2001. Year of No Light use three guitars, two drum kits and keyboards to build vast instrumental pieces, heard on 'Nord', 'Ausserwelt', 'Tocsin' and 'Consolamentum'. Singer Julien Perez left after the debut, and the band has worked instrumentally ever since. Their live performances, played in near darkness, are regarded as among the most physical in European post-metal.
