Album Notes & Community Reviews

'El Tambor de Cuba' is a three CD retrospective of Cuban conga player Chano Pozo, organised as one disc of his compositions recorded by other artists, one of his Cuban recordings and one of his sessions with Dizzy Gillespie and James Moody. The set draws on recordings made between 1939 and 1953, including 'Manteca' and 'Cubana Be, Cubana Bop', with collaborators including Machito, Arsenio Rodr铆guez and Milt Jackson. Jordi Pujol's accompanying booklet supplies a biography and discography of the percussionist, who was murdered in Harlem in 1948.
