Album Notes & Community Reviews

Combining two of Carlos Kleiber's most legendary mid-1970s recordings with the Vienna Philharmonic onto a single disc, this release is universally regarded as a pinnacle of orchestral interpretation. Kleiber's obsessive perfectionism and kinetic conducting style stripped away decades of sluggish romanticism, injecting Beethoven's fifth and seventh symphonies with breathtaking rhythmic vitality and terrifying intensity. The collection consistently ranks among the greatest and most highly recommended classical recordings ever captured.
